Vols Football: 5 Most Interesting Things We Could Learn In Opener
By Zach Ragan
Wide Receiver Rotation
Six wide receivers are listed as starters/co-starters on the Volunteers’ first depth chart.
But there are usually only three wide receivers on the field at a time, so some sort of rotation will have to be sorted out.
We know Jauan Jennings is the top option in the passing game, but beyond that, it’s unclear what the pecking order will be.
Most folks, myself included, probably felt like Marquez Callaway, with his stellar training camp, would be the other starting wideout, with Tyler Byrd starting in the slot.
But Callaway is listed behind Jennings on the depth chart. Byrd is listed as a co-starter with Latrell Williams and Josh Smith. Across from Jennings, Josh Palmer and Brandon Johnson are listed as starters.
The Tennessee coaches will be the first to tell you that a depth chart is nothing more than names on a paper, but you still have to wonder why Callaway isn’t listed as a starter. It’s certainly odd.
We’ll definitely know, however, what the Vols’ wide receiver rotation will look like after the matchup against Georgia Tech.
