Les Miles

Former LSU head coach

I don’t love the idea of Tennessee hiring Les Miles, but it wouldn’t be the worst move in the world.

It’s pretty obvious that Miles wants to coach again, and he’s one of the few college coaches that has a national championship to his credit. And he’s also one of the few that’s been able to beat Nick Saban in the last decade.

But how successful would Miles be in Knoxville? It’s not like Miles was killing it at the end of his tenure at LSU. He was becoming an eight to ten win a year coach.

Would he be better than what is currently on the sideline in Tennessee? Absolutely.

However, are we just going to ignore the fact that Miles turns 64 in November?

I’m fine with Tennessee hiring Miles, as long as it ends up being a Bobby Bowden/Jimbo Fisher type of situation. I’d want the replacement on staff, so it would be a seamless transition. Maybe the Vols could persuade Tee Martin to be the offensive coordinator under Miles, with the promise that he takes over as head coach when Miles retires in four or five years.

Now that is a coaching hire/situation I could get behind.
