James Franklin

Head coach at Penn State

I don’t know how likely it is that James Franklin would leave Penn State for Tennessee. It’s probably not very likely at all.

But this is a guy you have to go after. He’s a proven winner. I mean he won nine games in back to back years at Vanderbilt. That’s something that some writers were praising Butch Jones for doing at Tennessee. He’s also turned Penn State into a top ten team in the nation, and he’s one of the few coaches that’s beat Urban Meyer.

There’s nothing I would dislike about this hire (the press conferences would certainly be a lot more entertaining).

But I don’t think there’s much love lost between Franklin and Tennessee. Dating back to his days as the Vanderbilt head coach, and Butch Jones’ poaching of Bob Stoop from his staff.

However, maybe Franklin’s ego would love to be back in the SEC and truly give Saban a run for his money. I think he could excel in Knoxville. He’s one of the few coaches in the country that has the potential to win a national championship.
