Chip Kelly

Former head coach at Oregon

Every few years there’s a can’t miss college head coaching candidate — Chip Kelly is that guy in 2017 and he’s absolutely who the Vols need to hire.

Kelly is going to return to coaching in 2018, and it will almost certainly be a college job.

And I’m of the opinion that the Tennessee job will be the best job available this off-season.

The Vols’ roster has talent, and the program is in pretty good shape, so it’s not like Kelly will have a lot of work cut out for him.

Oh and if Kelly’s disdain for recruiting concerns you, don’t let it — Kelly routinely recruited top 10-15 classes at Oregon and had a ton of success. I’d say he’d likely do just as well at Tennessee when it comes to recruiting, if not better.

I can’t really think of any downside to hiring Kelly, he’s definitely a guy that could turn the Volunteers into an elite program again.
