The Tennessee Vols could soon be looking for a new head coach. Will former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops be an option.

Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops is one of the most successful college football coaches ever, so it would make sense that fans of the Tennessee Vols would love to see him in Knoxville.

But that’s almost certainly not going to happen.

During an interview on Monday, Stoops confirmed that he has absolutely no interest in returning to college football. Stoops said if he still had interest in coaching, he never would have left Oklahoma.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The idea of Stoops resigning from Oklahoma, when the program is in good shape, taking a year off and then taking another job is absurd.

Especially if you think Stoops was going to come to Tennessee to be part of a semi-rebuild.

Stoops was in a good situation at Oklahoma. It’s clear he felt the time was right to step away from coaching. He’s still young, and he has plenty of money, why not enjoy life while you can?

And besides, could you have imagined Phillip Fulmer stepping down from Tennessee in 2004ish, taking a year off and then going to another program?

Seems crazy to even suggest that as a possibility doesn’t it?

Well that’s basically the same situation as Bob Stoops. It’s time to put any rumors involving the former Sooners head coach to rest.

There’s absolutely no way Stoops coaches in the NCAA again.
