Tennessee Vols: Butch Jones’ Insecurities Continue To Show
By Zach Ragan
Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones is facing a lot of criticism for his actions as of late.
One of the biggest criticisms of Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones has been that he has incredibly thin skin.
This isn’t something that fans, or media analysts, just randomly toss out there either. We have seen plenty of displays of Jones’ insecurities in action.
Whether it’s talking up his mediocre accomplishments at Tennessee, or lecturing the media when they ask about a rumored fight amongst players, Jones always gives off the vibe that he’s a little too concerned with his perception.
It’s obvious right now that Jones is in panic mode. He even had an ESPN reporter write a story that centered on his wife and her reaction to Jones being on the hot seat.
And that’s not the only trick Jones is trying to use. After an offensive lineman announced on Monday that he was leaving the program, and a 2018 commitment reopened his recruitment, several 2018 commits inauspiciously reaffirmed their commitments via Twitter.
Could this be any more obvious?!?!? All of these 2018 commits received custom graphics from Tennessee and were told to reaffirm their commitments. Jones then, almost immediately in some cases, retweeted all of them.
This is just another example of how little self awareness Jones has. Anyone with half a brain could see what Jones was doing. And it’s not a good look.
Jones’ insecurity shines through nearly every time he speaks at this point. I know he’s receiving more criticism right now because of the on-the-field product and the rumors surrounding his job, but that’s even more reason for him to pay careful attention to what he does and says, to make sure it’s not twisted or put under a microscope. Clearly what he’s been doing isn’t working anymore.

Sudden change has been thrust in Jones’ direction and it’s time for him to adapt and overcome.
Instead, however, he’s going down a dead end road with little hope of finding his way.
