Mike Leach — Washington State Head Coach

I scoffed at the idea of Mike Leach when Fox Sports Knoxville’s Houston Kress first floated the idea on Twitter.

But after these last few weeks, I think I’m all in on Leach.

First off, I think his press conferences would be incredibly entertaining. I love his pirate infatuation and his affinity for Key West (the Mike Leach/Chip Kelly/Dale Jr story is fantastic).

But you don’t hire a coach for press conferences (if that was the case, Derek Dooley would have unseated Nick Saban at Alabama by now), you hire a coach for results.

And that’s something that Leach delivers.

Leach took over a pretty bad Washington State team and by Sunday afternoon, the Cougars should be in the top 10.

I’d love to see what Leach could do at Tennessee. I don’t think he’d be an elite head coach, but I do think he’d have Tennessee consistently competing for the SEC East and around the ten win mark on an annual basis.

And the Vols most certainly wouldn’t be a laughingstock anymore under Leach.
