Jon Gruden — ESPN

Earlier this week I took a look at what Jon Gruden’s coaching staff would look like if he became the head coach at Tennessee.

But that was obviously just for fun.

There’s no way Gruden will be coaching on Rocky Top next season. Was there some interest in the job from Gruden in the past?

Absolutely.

But after a lot of consideration, Gruden came to the conclusion that he’d be a horrible college coach, because of the guidelines and rules.

Then there’s always the fact that Gruden is paid quite well at ESPN. He reportedly makes north of $6 million a year, which would make him one of the top paid coaches in the NFL.

I can’t see him walking away from such a lucrative gig for a head coaching job in the SEC. I know I wouldn’t.

Gruden’s name will undoubtedly be mentioned in the same sentence as the Tennessee job at various points this fall, but don’t for a second think he’ll seriously consider leaving his cush job at ESPN.

EDIT:

Literally as I was finishing this list up, a photo of Gruden in Knoxville on Friday was tweeted.

Monday Night Football is in Nashville this week, so it makes sense that Gruden, who loves Knoxville, decided to stop by for a visit.

But that won’t stop the rumor mill from firing up.

Dammit Gruden, you get us every time.
