Dan Mullen — Head coach at Mississippi State

I’m constantly torn on Dan Mullen. I think he’s a pretty good coach that’s found some decent success in a place where it’s not easy to win.

But I’m not sure Mullen is someone that can bring Tennessee back to an elite status.

I do, however, think Mullen would be a safe option to guarantee that Tennessee consistently competes for the SEC East. I also think he’d have them in the college football playoff conversation more often than not.

Who knows if Mullen will actually consider leaving Mississippi State. He’s pretty much peaked in Starkville, but his job is also relatively secure.

Mullen, who makes just south of $5 million, is only 45. He still has a lot of coaching years ahead of him. It’s hard to imagine him sticking around at Mississippi State for the duration of his career.
