Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones should not still be the football coach at UT.

Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones has showed us his true character on many different occasions, but most of us ignored the signs for a long time.

Dating back to his days at Cincinnati, we knew what kind of person Jones was. He once threatened to end a press conference, ahead of the 2012 Belk Bowl, when reporters asked him about whether or not he was committed to Cincinnati. At that point it had been widely reported that Jones had interviewed with Purdue and hid behind a food cart at Colorado (as to not draw attention to himself).

During Jones’ time in Knoxville, several different occasions have come up that seem to cast the UT football coach in a bad light. From allegedly punching a player, to allegedly grabbing a player by the throat, or chastising a player for calling the police on a teammate, there have been plenty of signs that Jones isn’t a very good person.

Those thoughts have been further confirmed by the way Jones responded to questions about Brett Kendrick possibly playing against Kentucky with a concussion.

Jones told the media that he has nothing to do with when a player is removed from the game for a concussion. While it’s true the SEC has folks in spots to remove players from games that possibly have head injuries, Jones still has a responsibility to his players to observe any injuries and remove a player if he sees it necessary.

Someone close to Kendrick actually made the comment “Butch must not think a concussion is a ‘significant’ injury.”

It’s funny that Jones wants to describe himself as the caretaker of Tennessee football, and tell the media that it all falls on him after the team loses, but then completely deflect any responsibility when a serious issue comes up.

Tennessee is once again a national laughingstock because of John Currie’s indecision to fire a man that almost looks like he’s pleading to be fired.

Jones is great at cozying up to the folks in suits, telling a joke and flashing that big Michigan smile. But when things get bad, he immediately looks to his right and to his left to see who he can cast the blame on.

Fire Butch, put an interim in charge and start returning some decency to Tennessee.

Because right now all Currie is doing by keeping Jones is making UT look like a joke.
