Butch Jones resigns before Missouri game after concussion investigation

If Tennessee beats Southern Mississippi on Saturday night, there’s no way Butch Jones is fired on Sunday. Unless you’re the New York Mets, you don’t fire a coach after a win.

However, I could see Jones resigning before the Missouri game if Tennessee concludes that anything sketchy went on in regards to Brett Kendrick’s concussion that was suffered during the Vols’ loss to Kentucky.

I don’t think it will be found, or proved, that Jones knowingly played Kendrick with a concussion or head injury. But I do think it’s possible that Jones will fall on the sword for one of his assistant coaches. Not that I think he’s the kind of person that would do that for someone else, but because I think it would benefit him. It would make him look like a martyr by taking responsibility for his staff.

In fact, it’s probably the best way for Jones to save face in this particular situation.
