Tennessee Football: Latest List Of Top 10 Coaching Options To Lead Vols In 2018
By Zach Ragan
10. Matt Campbell — Head coach at Iowa State
Matt Campbell, an Ohio native, has done some impressive things in his two seasons at Iowa State.
The Cyclones knocked off Oklahoma and TCU this season, and they currently have a 6-3 record. That’s a far cry from when Iowa State was a cellar dweller in the Big 12.
Campbell, however, is still a young coach (he turns 38 in late November), and he’s never won more than nine games in a season (he was previously the head coach at Toledo).
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Matt Campbell. But he’s far from a sure thing in the SEC.
As we’ve seen with Butch Jones, the SEC isn’t for everyone. Outside of the past two seasons at Iowa State, Campbell doesn’t have any Power-5 coaching experience.
It’s also worth mentioning that Campbell has a high buyout at Iowa State.
The hope is that Tennessee doesn’t get this far down their list. But if they do, Campbell is still a better option than Butch Jones.
