Dan Mullen — Mississippi State Head Coach

I would love to put Jon Gruden’s name here. And it certainly sounds like it’s possible that he may take the job.

But Gruden is so unpredictable, that I don’t think anyone can pencil his name in until he says he’s taking the job (and signs the contract).

Outside of Gruden, I think the next option for the Vols will be Dan Mullen. He’s done well at Mississippi State, and the feeling is that he could do even better at Tennessee with more talented players.

Mullen is an Urban Meyer protege, so it could be interesting to see what he could do with the resources at Tennessee.

Obviously if the coaching carousel plays out this way, it will lead to some other Power-5 openings, which would create a ripple effect across college football.

In other words, it’s going to be a wild couple of weeks.
