Dan Mullen — Mississippi State head coach

This is looking more and more like the best case scenario for Tennessee.

I’ve been back and forth on Dan Mullen. Obviously he’s a good coach, and he competes in a really tough division, but it still concerns me that he’s never beat Alabama.

But then again, very few coaches have beat Bama.

Mullen would have some great talent at Tennessee. If he took Mississippi State to number one in the nation, it seems logical that he could do the same at Tennessee — and on a more consistent basis.

It sounds like Tennessee has started talking to Mullen’s camp, but we have no idea what kind of interest Mullen will have. He was reportedly very interested in the Georgia job a couple of years ago, so it wouldn’t be a stretch that he’d be interested in the Tennessee job.

Mullen has everything you look for in a coach. He’s great with quarterbacks, he has a ton of SEC experience (offensive coordinator on two national championship teams at Florida and nine seasons at Mississippi State), he’s only 45, and he’s an Urban Meyer protege.

If you look at Dan Mullen’s resumé at 45 and Nick Saban’s at 45, you hire Dan Mullen all day long and twice on Sunday.

Seems like a pretty easy choice to me.
