2. Chris Petersen — Washington Head Coach

I’ve long been the opinion that Chris Petersen won’t be an option for Tennessee.

But there’s been a lot of recent talk that Petersen isn’t happy at Washington and in the Pac-12. Perhaps he’d like a better opportunity at a school that doesn’t play their games after most folks have gone to bed.

I still think it’s a long shot that Petersen would be interested in the Tennessee job (seems much more likely that he’d be interested in Texas A&M), but obviously you have to gauge his interest.

Petersen proved he was a winner at Boise State. And then guided Washington to the college football playoff in his third season with the program.

I’m not sure how he’d do in the southeast though. That’s my only sticking point on him. But he’s obviously a great football coach and he’d be better than anyone that’s led the Vols since Fulmer.

Currie has been known for his “out of left field hires”, so this could be a name to watch.
