Tennessee Coaching Search: Who Would Be Best Fit For Vols?
By Zach Ragan
Finding the right football coach for the Tennessee Vols will be all about fit.
Just because a coach has been extremely successful, doesn’t mean he’d be a good fit for the Tennessee Vols.
Take Bret Bielema for example. He was very successful at Wisconsin, winning 11 games on two different occasions.
But he hasn’t been able to get the job done at Arkansas — a place where Bobby Petrino proved a good coach can be successful.
Before taking the Arkansas job, Bielema had spent his entire career in Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin. He didn’t have any SEC experience.
I’m not saying SEC experience is an absolute prerequisite for Tennessee’s next coach, but it would certainly help.
Outside of experience, there are a few coaches that I think just wouldn’t be a good “fit” in Knoxville. Guys like Matt Campbell, Chris Petersen (though he’s such an amazing coach that I’d still love to see him at UT), and even Greg Schiano might not be the best fit at Tennessee.
But here are a few guys that I think would fit well with the Volunteers.
