COLLEGE STATION, TX – OCTOBER 28: Head coach Dan Mullen of the Mississippi State Bulldogs waves to the crowd as he walks off the field after the game against the Texas A /

Dan Mullen — Mississippi State Head Coach

There might not be a more polarizing coach in Tennessee’s coaching search than Dan Mullen.

Some folks think he would have Tennessee contending for national championships, while others think he’d be the next Butch Jones.

I’ll admit, I’ve went back and forth on him. He’s done a lot with a little at Mississippi State, but it would be nice to see a bit more from him.

(Here’s a breakdown of his success versus his recruiting.)

But regardless of how you view his time at Mississippi State, I think it’s obvious that he’d be a great fit at Tennessee. He’s been in the SEC since 2005, and he’s been a head coach since 2009. He knows the conference as well as any coach in the league.

Tennessee could do better than Mullen, but they could also do a lot worse.
