NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – NOVEMBER 19: Head coach Butch Jones of the Cincinnati Bearcats (L) shakes hands with head coach Greg Schiano of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights after a game at Rutgers Stadium on November 19, 2011 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. (Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty Images) /

Greg Schiano — Ohio State Defensive Coordinator

We floated Schiano’s name before Butch Jones was fired, but the chatter around his name died down a bit in the last few weeks.

But that has changed this week.

I don’t think Schiano is one of the Vols’ top options, but he does appear to be on their list.

Schiano was great at Rutgers, before leaving for the NFL. He was fired from Tampa Bay because of his inability to connect with his players. Perhaps a stint with Urban Meyer at Ohio State has made him a better coach?

There’s no doubt that Schiano is angling for a head coaching gig after this season. He could be the new “safety” coach for the Vols if it doesn’t work out with some of their top candidates.
