Vols Football: Tennessee Players Deny Vanderbilt Flag Plant
By Zach Ragan
The Tennessee Vols were unable to beat the Vanderbilt Commodores for the second straight season.
The Tennessee Vols might have lost the game on Saturday night, but they weren’t about to let the Vanderbilt Commodores have the last laugh.
After the game, a group of Vandy players attempted to “plant the Vanderbilt flag” in the center of the field at Neyland Stadium (we can thank Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield for this recent trend).
Vol players, however, were having none of it.
A group of players, led by defensive back Micah Abernathy, made sure the Vandy flag wasn’t planted at midfield.
I absolutely love this.
Sure, it’s been an awful season on Rocky Top.
But this is still Tennessee. And the players still have a lot of pride for the program. I think it’s fantastic that Tennessee’s players, regardless of what the win/loss column says, made sure to not hang their heads and walk off the field. They stood up for the T and that says a lot about who they are.
I have no idea who will coach the Vols in 2018, but whoever it is will inherit a bunch of prideful kids ready to give their all for Tennessee.
Hopefully John Currie and the administration will make a hire that’s worthy of the Vol faithful that continue to support the program though some really tough times.

Tennessee has the potential to be great. They just need the right coach to help them get to greatness.
And it’s up to Currie to make that happen.
