Tennessee Vols Coaching Search: Post-Schiano Hot Board

Tee Martin is gaining a lot of traction with fans, but I’m not positive he’s ready to be the head coach at Tennessee.
Look, I love Tee Martin as much as anyone. But the Vol football program is a complete mess right now. It’s not really the best situation for a first time head coach.
And let’s be honest, if Martin wasn’t a former Vol, fans would hate the thought of him being introduced as the Vols’ head coach. This would be akin to Tennessee hiring LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada — and you know that wouldn’t go over well on Rocky Top (and Canada has way more experience).
Just because Martin went to Tennessee, doesn’t mean he’d be successful as the head coach. Look at guys like Joker Phillips and Kliff Klingsbury, what makes you think this would be any different.
I think hiring Martin right now would be setting him up to fail. And he doesn’t deserve that.
