September 1 — Tennessee vs West Virginia (Charlotte)

So much for Jeremy Pruitt getting an easy game to start his tenure as the Tennessee Vols head coach (Butch Jones was fortunate to get Austin Peay in his first game).

The Vols will have a tough neutral site game against West Virginia to open the 2018 season.

West Virginia, by the way, will have Will Grier under center to start the 2018 season. Grier, who beat Tennessee when he was Florida’s quarterback in 2015, is returning for his senior season. Some folks expect him to be a big factor in the 2018 Heisman trophy race.

The Mountaineers finished the 2017 season with a 7-5 record. Their biggest win of the year was against 14th ranked Iowa State.

I think this is a game the Vols have the talent to win, but West Virginia has the better quarterback situation.

This will also be Pruitt’s first career game as a head coach. On paper, the advantage has to go to the Mountaineers.

Prediction: West Virginia wins

Tennessee record: 0-1
