Recently hired Tennessee Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt is still working to fill out his coaching staff.

One of the popular choices to be the Tennessee Vols’ next wide receivers coach is Bryan McClendon, who is currently serving as South Carolina’s interim offensive coordinator.

McClendon, who was a wide receiver at Georgia and briefly played in the NFL for the Chicago Bears, coached with Jeremy Pruitt at Georgia from 2014-15.

It appears that McClendon is Pruitt’s top choice to be Tennessee’s next wide receivers coach.

But it seems unlikely that McClendon will actually end up coaching for the Vols next season.

That’s because there’s a very good chance that Will Muschamp hires McClendon to be the Gamecocks’ offensive coordinator next season.

Muschamp recently said McClendon is basically going through a “long job interview”. He also outlined the areas where he’s paying close attention to McClendon.

From Saturday Down South:

"“I think organizing practice, organizing meetings, command with the team, command with the staff,” said Muschamp, “And obviously the preparation for the game and the production of the game. I think it’s all encompassing. Up to this point, he’s done an outstanding job.”"

And it’s not just Muschamp that likes what he sees from McClendon. The South Carolina players are also big fans.

Especially tight end Hayden Hurst.

From The State:

"“B-Mac just brings a sense of confidence that we need,” Hurst said. “I think for some time now, we’ve been searching for a bit of an identity as an offense. And I think he has a pretty good philosophy on how he wants to run things, how he wants things done. I think that will be really good for this team.”"

I think McClendon would be a great choice to be Tennessee’s next wide receivers coach. He’s a high energy guy, who is also a tremendous recruiter.

But I can’t see him turning down a chance to be an offensive coordinator to come to Rocky Top.

And right now, it’s trending toward McClendon landing the South Carolina offensive coordinator gig on a full a time basis.

It looks like Pruitt will likely have to continue his search for a wide receivers coach.
