Tennessee Vols: Jon Gruden Basically Confirms He’s A Narcissist
By Zach Ragan
The 2017 edition of “Grumors” were wild for the Tennessee Vols and their fans.
I have no idea the level of interest the Tennessee Vols showed in Jon Gruden during the latest coaching search.
But I think it’s safe to say that Gruden didn’t have any real interest in coaching Tennessee — which is something he had multiple opportunities to say, but instead opted to keep his name lingering in the news.
We know this because Gruden confirmed on Tuesday that he has interest in the Oakland Raiders job and that he is a candidate.
From The Mercury News:
"“My understanding is they’re interviewing candidates this week and they’re going to let everybody know sometime early next week or whenever they make their decision,” Gruden said.Asked specifically if he was a candidate, Gruden said, “Well, I think I am being considered, yes. I hope I’m a candidate.”"
What the hell, Jon?!?!?!
Gruden basically teased Vol fans in November, by dodging questions and randomly bringing up Tennessee in interviews. He created a cloud of secrecy around his supposed interest in the Vols’ job, even reportedly contacting potential assistants to join him (an annual Grtradition).
Tennessee fans were constantly wondering whether or not Gruden had any real interest in the job, but the entire time he had his sights set on the NFL. But he just couldn’t pass up the free publicity, via speculation.
The moment a job came along that truly piqued Gruden’s interest, he was quick to tell the media that he was interested in the job.
It’s beyond clear that Gruden only cares about what benefits Gruden. We pretty much already knew that, but this just confirms it.

I wish the Raiders luck if they end up hiring Gruden. They’ll likely be looking for another head coach by 2021.
