Former Tennessee Vols head coach Derek Dooley is back in the SEC.

I’ve been wanting former Tennessee Vols head coach Derek Dooley back in the SEC for quite some time.

Not because I have any ill will toward him, but because he’s one of the great “characters” in the history of the SEC.

My wish came true on Friday.

Dooley, according to multiple reports, will join Missouri’s staff as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.

This is definitely a bit of a stunner.

I always thought Dooley would eventually end up back in the college game, but I figured it would be as a position coach.

Dooley has never been a coordinator at any point during his career. He’s also never been a quarterbacks coach. This could be an interesting ride for Missouri.

(If I’m a Mizzou fan, I’m more concerned about Dooley being the quarterbacks coach.)

Honestly, I don’t really care how Dooley fares at his new job. I’m just hoping he gets to speak to the media on a regular basis.

WE DESERVE IT!!!!

Dooley might have failed miserably as Tennessee’s head coach, but he delivered some of the most memorable press conferences in college football history. From Rommel to shower etiquette, Dooley always provided great content.

By the way, Dooley will return to Neyland Stadium in 2018. The Volunteers host the Tigers on November 17 in Knoxville.

I’d expect Dooley’s return to Neyland to go a bit smoother than Lane Kiffin’s return went in 2014.

While Vol fans were happy to see Dooley get fired in 2012, there’s nowhere near the same level of hate as there was for Kiffin.
