Tennessee Football: Did Tee Martin Take A Shot At The Vols?
By Zach Ragan
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Tee Martin recently signed an extension to remain at USC as the Trojans’ offensive coordinator.
Nearly all Tennessee Vols fans loves Tee Martin — or at least they should.
How can you not love the quarterback that led Tennessee to their last national championship?!?!
With that in my mind, what follows here is strictly between Tee Martin and Tennessee and it has nothing to do with the fans.
I’m pretty confident that Martin took a shot at the Volunteers with some of his recent comments.
Martin, who signed an extension this past week to remain at USC as Clay Helton’s offensive coordinator, made it clear that he doesn’t think you leave USC for a “lateral move”.
There were some UT fans that wanted Martin to get a look as Tennessee’s head coach, but the Vols never showed any interest in interviewing Martin (for what it’s worth, I don’t think Martin is ready to be a head coach).
However, there were some unfounded rumors that Phillip Fulmer had some discussions with Martin about joining the staff at Tennessee as the program’s offensive coordinator. Obviously that would’ve been a lateral move for Martin.
But it seems to me that Martin is proclaiming that being the offensive coordinator at USC is a better job than being the offensive coordinator at Tennessee. I’m aware that’s an opinion likely shared by a lot of folks outside of East Tennessee, but it’s not a sentiment you’d expect to come from a Vol legend.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but it definitely feels like there’s some animosity between Martin and his alma mater.
Either way, I think the Vols got the better play caller from USC.
