Nashville Predators: Mike Fisher is coming out of retirement!
Former captain Mike Fisher is coming out of retirement to join the Nashville Predators!
The Nashville Predators announced today that former captain Mike Fisher is joining the team once again in hopes of making another run at the Stanley Cup. Fisher was on the Predators for seven seasons, and named captain before the 2016 season when the team traded away Shea Weber. Fisher retired this past August after 18 seasons in the NHL. Fisher is 5th in goals in Predators history, and will look to improve on that the rest of this season.
This is big news for the Nashville Predators. Fisher was a key contributor for the Predators for years, and was a big part in the Stanley Cup run last year. Not only do the Predators get a good hockey player back, they also get a leader back. Fisher won’t have the captain title that he had in previous years, but he will a key veteran for the Predators to go along with Scott Hartnell and Pekka Rinne.
Fisher won’t play right away for the Predators as he has to get back into the swing of things. The trade deadline for the NHL is on February 26th, so the Predators will sign him to the team before that deadline. The roster is full right now, so the Predators will have to send someone down to Milwaukee. Miikka Salomaki or Pontus Aberg likely have the best chance of being sent down. Fisher will likely be the 3rd or 4th line center. If Fisher is the 4th line center, Colton Sissons will likely move to the wing.
Fisher coming back will help the Predators with experience, especially by the time the playoffs come around. Fisher will be a huge part of the team if they make another run at the Stanley Cup.
