Nashville Predators: GM David Poile etches his name in history books
Nashville Predators General Manager David Poile etched his name in history books last night, becoming the winningest GM in NHL history.
The Nashville Predators scored four unanswered goals against the Edmonton Oilers last night in a 4-2 win to etch David Poileโs name in history books. Poile became the all-time winningest GM in NHL history with 1,320 wins, as he moved past Glen Sather of the New York Rangers. Poile will only increase this number, especially with the continued success of the Predators.
Poile has been the General Manager of the Predators from the start of the franchise in 1998. Before becoming the GM of the Predators, Poile was in the same position at the Washington Capitals from 1982-1997.
Although it took time, Poile has brought a great deal of success to Nashville. He has been the master of trades getting guys like Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen, P.K. Subban, Kyle Turris and much more throughout his years in Nashville. During his tenure as a Predator, Poile has a record of 726-574-145. He has only had two coaches while in Nashville, and they both have been very successful.
Poile is very deserving of this feat, and it will be great to see him likely continue this success and increase this margin.
Game Recap
The Nashville Predators didnโt start out the game bad, although it seemed that way on the scoreboard. The Predators outshot the Oilers 17-12 on the period but were down 2-0.
Connor McDavid scored a nice goal to get the Oilers on the board first. Before the goal though, the refs clearly missed a slashing call on McDavid, leading to Ekholm losing his stick and putting himself out of position letting McDavid score an easy goal. The Oilers then increased their margin on a powerplay goal from Leon Draisaitl.
The 2nd period was fairly quiet until the last five minutes. Scott Hartnell put the Predators on the board with a beautiful sequence of passes from Nick Bonino and Calle Jarnkrok. Viktor Arvidsson then scored a goal assisted by Filip Forsberg with 10 seconds left in the 2nd period.
Arvidsson scored his 2nd goal of the game with just 5:08 left in the game to give the Predators a 3-2 lead.
Austin Watson then scored another goal for the Predators to take the Oilersโ hopes of a comeback away, and help solidify the record for Poile.
