#3 – OT Win at Colorado

Picking the game to go in this category was very difficult. I believe the other two games are pretty obvious. It was hard to put this game over the Oilers game when Poile broke the all-time win record from a GM, but in terms of an overall better game, I believe this game deserves it more. The Predators have pulled off many comebacks during their current win streak and yesterday’s win is another one of those.

The Predators jumped out to an early lead thanks to a goal from Austin Watson, as his shot was deflected in off of an Avalanche defender. The Avalanche tied the game up later in the 1st period when Nikita Zadorov, who had just left the penalty box, got open on a breakaway and fired a shot past Rinne.

Kyle Turris put the Predators back on top during the 2nd period on a powerplay goal off of beautiful passes from Ryan Ellis and Kevin Fiala.

The Avalanche tied the game back up in the 3rd period when Matt Nieto scored. The puck bounced off of Rinne and was left right in front of the goal. Fiala then tried to clear the puck away but whiffed and knocked the puck in the net, tying the game up. The Avalanche then took the lead on a powerplay goal from Mikko Rantanen with just over five minutes left in the game.

The Predators weren’t done though, as they pulled Rinne to put them on a 6-5 advantage. Nashville was able to get great chances and finally found Ellis an open shot, as his slap shot tied the game up and sent the game into OT. In OT, Filip Forsberg was able to skate up the ice and was able to shoot the puck through Varlamov’s five-hole, giving the Predators their eighth win in a row.

One of the more impressive things about this win is that the Predators were without some of their key players. Both Roman Josi and Craig Smith sat for the 2nd game in a row. With the Predators having so much depth, they will likely continue to rest a good amount of their players, in order to have them fresh by the time the playoffs roll around.
