Nashville Predators: Three best games during current winning streak
#1 – Predators outduel the Jets
This matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 27th was an instant classic between the Predators and the Jets, with the Predators coming out on top 6-5. It was a matchup between two great teams that will have a great chance to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Both teams had made trades on the last day of the NHL Trade Deadline in order to build and strengthen their team to make a playoff run. The Jets acquired Paul Stastny, while the Predators picked up Ryan Hartman to help on the 3rd and 4th lines.
Although it’s hard to believe, there was no scoring at all during the 1st period of this game, despite the high scoring final score. The Jets got on board first, but the Predators soon scored after that on a goal from Smith. The Jets then scored two more goals to put them up 3-1.
Turris then cut the lead in half. The Jets challenged that goal for an offside, but were wrong, giving the Predators a powerplay chance. Ekholm was able to score on the power play with one second left, tying the game up. Just 30 seconds after that, the Jets regained the lead on a goal from Nikolaj Ehlers. The 2nd period featured seven goals alone.
Stastny scored in his first game as a Jet to put them up 5-3. Smith scored his 2nd goal of the game to cut the lead in half yet again. Johansen then tied the game up just three minutes later. Hartman, in his first game as a Predator, scored the game-winning goal right in front of the net on a nice assist from Josi with just a minute left.
Josi had a career night, as he picked up five assists on the night. This game was awesome to watch and is very deserving of the #1 spot. These two teams meet twice more this season, and will likely lead to more crazy games between the two teams.
