Taylor Lewan got the deal he has been waiting for. The Tennessee Titans give him a contract worth $80M, making him the highest paid tackle in NFL history.

Tennessee Titans left tackle, Taylor Lewan, saw the New York Giants pay Nate Solder, and used that as leverage to get himself a big contract. Solder signed a four-year, $62M contract with $34M guaranteed.

On Friday morning, Jon Robinson and the Titans blew that out of the water when Lewan put pen-to-paper on the richest contract in NFL history for an offensive lineman.

Lewan is what the Titans need on the offensive line. In his earlier years, he was a penalty machine. He consistently set the offense back with penalties and false starts and angered fans.

Recently, he stepped his game up, putting together two solid, Pro Bowl-worthy seasons and became a key reason why Marcus Mariota is staying upright. He worked his way to becoming one of the best tackles an NFL team could ask for.

Lewan plays one of the most important positions on the field. With Mariota being right-handed, Lewan is protecting his blindside. One of the biggest keys for the Titans has been keeping Mariota protected and healthy.

So, signing Lewan to this huge contract and keeping him in Nashville until 2023 is a statement saying: “We are serious about the future of our franchise.” That is good news for Titans fans.

Robinson has not been afraid to spend money as Titans’ General Manager. He signed Malcolm Butler to a five-year, $61M deal earlier this offseason.

Lewan provides a fire on offense that the Titans need, as their offensive leader, Mariota, is not a guy you would expect to yell and fire people up on the field with his words. He does that more so with his play-making abilities.

This contract is well deserved by Lewan, and comes at the perfect time so he can participate in training camp while under contract and gear up for another season.

What’s Next?

Now with Lewan locked up until 2023, the Titans have to evaluate their quarterback, Marcus Mariota. This is a contract year for him, and let’s face it, he has been pretty inconsistent for the Titans.

His rookie season showed promise, but he got hurt and missed a few games. In his second season, he did better, posting 26 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. He then got hurt and the Titans’ playoff hopes went down the drain.

In his third season, he was battling an injury all year long, still managed to win a playoff game, but also posted 13 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

dark. Next. Vrabel Coach of the Year?

This season, it is crucial he proves he can stay healthy and be the best quarterback for the Titans going forward. If he can prove that, you can expect he next big pay day to come to Marcus Mariota.
