#3: Vols will have a 2000-yard passer

One of the question marks for the Volunteers coming into the season is the quarterback spot. Jarrett Guarantano and Keller Chryst have been battling for the starting spot during camp, and it will be interesting to see who comes out of that as the starter. This is a pretty bold prediction, considering neither quarterback has been close to passing for over 2000 yards since they’ve been in college.

Like I said, this is a bold prediction, but I do think there is a chance of it happening, whether it be Guarantano or Chryst. Nine quarterbacks in the SEC threw for over 2000 yards last season, so there is a possibility of it happening.

It’s hard to take a sample size from both quarterbacks considering neither player has played a full season. Guarantano passed for 997 yards last season, throwing 86 completions on 139 attempts. Considering the guys in the SEC who passed for 2000 yards had double the amounts of throws, I think it’s possible for him or Chryst to reach that mark.

Joshua Dobbs reached the 2000 yard mark twice as a Tennessee quarterback, so it’s possible. History is not on the quarterback’s side though. In the years that feature a QB battle, no quarterback has passed for over 2000 yards, including last year.
