The Memphis Tigers begin their season on Saturday as they take on the Mercer Bears. Here are our sitewide predictions for that game.

The Memphis Tigers begin their 2018 season this Saturday at 7:00 PM CT, as they take on the Mercer Bears at home on ESPN3. It will be interesting to see how the Tigers fare this season, especially after losing Anthony Miller and Riley Ferguson.

Stetson Marlin’s Prediction

The Memphis Tigers should win this game, but they shouldn’t look down on this Mercer squad. It will be interesting to see how the Tigers replace Ferguson. Brady White was named the starting quarterback for the Memphis Tigers, so it will be interesting to see how he fares in his first game in almost two seasons. I think Mercer will hang around for a little bit, but the Tigers will eventually pull away.

Memphis 42 – Mercer 21

Mike Patton’s Prediction

The Memphis Tigers may have lost some parts like wide receiver Anthony Miller, but they will still be an explosive offense. Mercer will hang in there early, but as times go on, the superior talent the Tigers have will overcome the mighty Bears of Mercer. This one will get ugly, but it is only a question of “when” and not “if”.

Memphis 61  –  Mercer 21

Kyle Schmidt’s Prediction

The Memphis Tigers are coming off on the best seasons in school history after finishing behind UCF in the American Athletic Conference.  Mercer, an FCS school, finished last season 5-6.  Although the Tigers will be playing with a new quarterback and will be trying to replace wide receiver Anthony Miller (drafted by the Chicago Bears), I don’t see them having too many problems moving the ball an putting the points on the board against the Bears.

Mike Norvell, the head coach for the Tigers, has this team heading in the right direction.  There is more excitement in Memphis about this football team and I expect plenty of fans to show up and create a hostile environment for the Bears.  Memphis will win this one big and start the season 1-0.

Memphis 49  –  Mercer 14

Austin Wright’s Prediction

For Memphis, they should rout Mercer in an easy season opener. The Tigers still have a lot to prove this season with a fairly strong AAC with UCF leading the charge. This will be a game the Tigers can handle easily.
