Memphis football will look to build off of their opening week blowout, as they take on the Navy Midshipmen. Here are our sitewide predictions for that game.

The Memphis Tigers football team blew out the Mercer Bears last week and they are looking to do the same thing this week, as they have an away game against the Navy Midshipmen. Navy is coming off of a disappointing performance against Hawaii.

Kickoff will be at 3:30 PM. The game will be broadcasted on NBCSN

Stetson Marlin’s Prediction:

The Memphis offense will be on point in this game again. Hawaii was able to move the ball all day on this team and I see the Memphis offense doing the same thing this week to the Midshipmen defense. Brady White passed for 358 yards and five touchdowns last week and has a chance to improve on that this week, especially against a defense that allowed 428 passing yards last week. This game will be closer than the game against Mercer last week, but Memphis will still win this one, running away with it at the end.

Memphis 55 – Navy 35

Kyle Schmidt’s Prediction:

The Memphis Tigers will have their first big test of the season on Saturday when they go on the road to take on Navy.  Memphis has struggled in the past to stop the flex bone offense that Navy runs.  Navy is coming off a week one loss to Hawaii in which their defense gave up 436 yards and 6 touchdowns through the air.  Hawaii won a high scoring contest 59-41.

Memphis played Mercer in their opening game and won big, 66-14.  Tigers quarterback Brady White was 22-26 passing for 358 yards and 5 touchdowns.  If Navy is going to be able to hang in this game and win, they are going to have to be able to slow down the Tigers passing game and I don’t see that happening.  This will be a high scoring game, but in the end, Memphis will win.

Memphis 56 – Navy 28

Austin Wright’s Prediction:

The Memphis Tigers roared last week as they crushed Mercer 66-14 in a blowout at home. This week’s matchup vs Navy will prove to be one of Memphis’s most difficult. Navy’s offense always poses a threat to opposing defenses but can be handled as proven by the Tigers last year with them winning 30-27 at home.

Memphis is prolific yet again offensively, but there is one question that stands out. Will the Tiger secondary be able to withstand receivers such as Zach Abey? He alone had 4 touchdowns last week vs Hawaii. Assuming Memphis can exploit their own talented receivers such as Calvin Austin III, then they will win.

Chris Clark’s Prediction:

Memphis is one of the highest scoring teams in the nation. They regularly put 30+ points on the board and haven’t lost to anyone but UCF since last season. That continues here.

Memphis 48 – Navy 15

Mike Patton’s Prediction:

Memphis returns to action this weekend to take on Navy in what will be an interesting matchup of contrasting styles.  The Tigers have to be disciplined defensively and explosive offensively. If they can do both of these things, look for them to bury Navy.
