Vanderbilt Football: Sitewide Predictions for the Nevada Game
Vanderbilt football is looking to start their season off hot, looking to get a win against the Nevada Wolf Pack. Here are our sitewide predictions for that game.
This will be an important game for Vanderbilt football. The Commodores need to win this game because of their tough matchup against Notre Dame next Saturday. This game could possibly feature a lot of points scored. Kickoff will be early for this game, with the game kicking off at noon. The game will be broadcasted on SEC Network.
Stetson Marlin’s Prediction:
This is a tough prediction. Vanderbilt should win this ballgame but it’s hard to judge Vanderbilt and Nevada after last weeks’ games. Vanderbilt took care of MTSU, while Nevada destroyed Portland State, an FCS program.
I can see this game going back and forth with both teams having a chance to win the ballgame. Kyle Shurmur will have a big impact in this game for the Commodores. I also believe they will have a certain running back stick out, helping the Commodores pull this one out. It’s hard to say so early in the season, but I would say this is a must-win for the Commodores, especially because of their game next week against the Irish.
Vanderbilt 35 – Nevada 31
Kyle Schmidt’s Prediction:
The Commodores opened their season with a convincing win over nearby MTSU, 35-7. The Commodores gained 170 yards through the air two touchdowns to go along with their 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Nevada won their opening contest against Portland St 72-19. As a team, the Wolfpack threw for 420 yards and 4 touchdowns. They added another 219 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground.
Vanderbilt will have a much tougher defense to deal with so I do not expect Nevada to put up near as many points. Nevada will have their hands full as they try and slow down Vanderbilt quarterback Shurmur.
If Vanderbilt gets caught looking ahead to their game against Notre Dame, Nevada is a team that can put up big numbers and win this game. I do think Vanderbilt will ultimately beat Nevada in a close but high scoring game.
Vanderbilt 38 – Nevada 31
Austin Wright’s Prediction:
Vanderbilt had a strong showing against MTSU last week and should have a lot of momentum going into their 2nd home game of the season vs Nevada. If Vanderbilt can keep up their electric offensive production, they should be able to keep a shootout vs Nevada relatively in control, but that all comes down to the stout defense that the Dores tout.
Shurmur and Blasingame should put up big numbers vs a Wolf Pack defense that will struggle to handle Vandy’s firepower.
Vanderbilt 42 – Nevada 28
Chris Clark’s Prediction:
The Vanderbilt Commodores haven’t seen an offense like Nevada’s, but that won’t matter in this game
Vandy’s offense will continue to shine versus Nevada.
Vanderbilt 30 – Nevada 21
Mike Patton’s Prediction:
Vanderbilt comes into Week 2 riding high after a home win over MTSU. In this one, they not only have to battle Nevada but overconfidence. They succeed on both fronts but closer than most would think.
Vanderbilt 31 – Nevada 27
