Tennessee Football: 5 Things to look for against Florida
#4 – Special teams
I won’t reveal my final score predictions yet, as I will save those for Friday. I do believe the game will be very close, and I think it will come down to special teams. Pruitt has always had a huge focus on special teams, so I’m sure they have focused on special teams a ton this week.
A punt block or a made field goal could play a huge factor in this matchup on Saturday. Even just a punt pinning them deep in their own territory could be huge inside Neyland Stadium. We saw that last year in this series, as the Volunteers missed a few field goals, which ultimately could’ve helped the Volunteers win.
Evan McPherson has looked impressive so far for Florida this season. He has made all of his extra point attempts and has made five out of six field goal attempts.
Brent Cimaglia has made all 13 of his extra point attempts and is just two for two on field goals so far this season.
Like the sixth maxim on General Neyland’s Game Maxims, “Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.” That statement is in play this week for the Volunteers matchup against the Gators. It’ll be interesting to see how this game ultimately ends up, but this game has the chance to be decided on a game-winning field goal.
