Tennessee Titans: Sitewide Predictions for the Jaguars game
By Chris Clark
The Tennessee Titans battle the red-hot Jacksonville Jaguars with a chance to improve to 2-0 in the AFC South. Will the Titans ruin the Jaguars’ parade?
The Tennessee Titans continued their winning ways in the AFC South this past Sunday versus the Texans. The win was impressive for many reasons. One of those reasons being the Titans were severely short-handed on offense.
It was up to the defense and special teams to step up, and boy did they. A fake punt to get the game started, and an interception and some sacks on Deshaun Watson kept the momentum mostly in the Titans’ favor.
The Titans sent the Texans home with a 20-17 loss, shocking many NFL analysts who chose the Texans to easily runaway with this one. It does not get easier for the Titans though, as they have to travel down to Jacksonville to battle the red-hot Jaguars.
The Jaguars are fresh off a big win over the New England Patriots. They are 2-0 and in firm control of the AFC South, but they face a team who has a prime shot to take lead in the division with a win.
Will the Titans prevail in Duval County? Here’s what the TennTruth crew thinks:
Chris Clark’s Prediction
The Tennessee Titans showed a lot of promise rallying to win without star power versus the Texans. I’ll admit, I was a bit afraid of what will happen to Blaine Gabbert playing that Texans front without two quality offensive linemen.
However, Jacksonville is a different beast. That entire defense is solid, and the Titans will need much more than just a solid offensive line to breakthrough that defense. Here is my dilemma with this game: the quarterback position, who starts? I want to make and stick with one prediction here, but who plays at quarterback for the Titans will make a huge difference.
Gabbert did well managing the game and not turning the ball over versus Houston, but that will be really hard for him to do versus Jacksonville. It is looking like Mariota may be benched again on Sunday, considering he is still having trouble throwing (but is getting better).
So, assuming Gabbert is under center, I don’t see the Titans winning. I hate to say it, I love my Titans, but a win isn’t happening with Gabbert.
Final Score Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars 31 Tennessee Titans 17
Mike Patton’s Prediction
The Tennessee Titans won over the Texans, but it wasn’t very pretty. They go into Jacksonville to take on a hot Jaguars team potentially without Marcus Mariota at the helm.
With that being said, they say the fall happens after the high and this is what we shall see with the Jags this week vs the Titans. The Titans somehow find a way to get it done and win yet another regular season game against the Jags.
Final Score Prediction: Tennessee Titans 24 Jacksonville Jaguars 20
Stetson Marlin’s Prediction
This will be a big match-up for both teams. The Titans have a good chance to move to 2-0 in the division, but I don’t believe that will happen.
The Jags are a very good team and will just outmatch the Titans in everything.
Final Score Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars 38 Tennessee Titans 21
Austin Wright’s Prediction
The Tennessee Titans have a big early test in week three with the team going to Jacksonville to face a second straight AFC South opponent. The Titans have a lot to work on going into this pivotal matchup, but fans should be happy with the win they got against Houston last week.
Hopefully this week the Titans can use more trick plays to put points on the board and utilize running backs Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis against a tough Jacksonville defense. This game will be critical for the Titans and their push to make it back to the playoffs.
Winning divisional games is the foundation for their season, and this will be a tightly contested game with the Titans winning.
Final Score Prediction: Tennessee Titans 24 Jacksonville Jaguars 21
