Tennessee Titans: Three Takeaways from the MNF win against the Cowboys
The Tennessee Titans moved to 4-4 on the year after a much-needed win against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
The Tennessee Titans had a chip on their shoulder as they headed out of the bye week, just a week removed from their one-point loss in London to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Titans looked to come out firing after the bye week, but they did the exact opposite. The offense coughed the ball up on their first two possessions, which is something you don’t want to do on the road, especially at AT&T Stadium. The defense stood tall though, only allowing seven points in the first quarter, despite the two turnovers in their own territory.
The Titans tied the game up when Derrick Henry rushed it in from one yard out, capping off a 15-play, 80-yard drive that took off just under nine minutes off of the clock.
After yet another stand from the defense, the Titans offense capitalized and took the lead after Marcus Mariota found Darius Jennings down the middle of the field for 36 yards, setting up a screen from Mariota to Dion Lewis from 18 yards out.
For the first time during this game, the defense looked out of place, as they let the Cowboys drive down the field in less than four minutes, tying the game back up right before halftime. Malcolm Butler, the Titans big offseason pickup, got burnt yet again, this time by Allen Hurns.
The Titans defense came up huge midway through the third quarter when Jayon Brown sacked Dak Prescott, forcing him to cough the ball up and give it over to the Titans.
The Titans capitalized yet again, this time coming from a shovel pass to Jonnu Smith from Mariota, pulling a play out of the Kansas City Chiefs playbook.
The Titans had a chance to increase their lead to 10 points, but Ryan Succop missed a chip-shot 28-yard field goal.
Once again though, the defense came up huge, this time thanks to a sack from Titans rookie Harold Landry.
The Titans took a 14 point lead after Mariota found the end zone yet again when he rushed the ball in from nine yards out.
That score ended up staying, as the Titans moved to 4-4 on the year. This was a much-needed win, especially after the Texans won their sixth straight game this past weekend to move to 6-3 on the year.
