The Nashville Predators announced on Thursday that Viktor Arvidsson and P.K. Subban will be sent to the IR after suffering injuries.

The Nashville Predators suffered a few blows on Thursday, as they announced that Viktor Arvidsson broke his thumb and will now miss 6-8 weeks. He was activated from the IR just this past Saturday but suffered the broken thumb in the third period of the Predators win on Saturday against the Minnesota Wild.

This injury is obviously a major blow to the Predators. Nashville has some of the best depth in the NHL, but it will hurt to lose your first-line playmaker. The Predators first line had been of fire throughout the first few weeks, but they will now depend on another player to fill in for Arvidsson.

Arvidsson, like the rest of the first line, jumped out to a fast start. Through 13 games, he had produced 13 points, including eight goals. Arvidsson and Filip Forsberg had battled back and forth as the goal leader for the Nashville Predators, but after Arvidsson had missed some time, Forsberg captured the lead back. Forsberg now leads the team with 12 goals.

The Predators also announced that defenseman P.K. Subban was sent to the IR on Thursday.

Subban had spent time on and off the ice throughout the Predators last few matchups. We now know why, as he is heading to the Injured Reserve. His injury is undisclosed currently.

Subban leads the Predators defensemen with 12 points, including 10 of those coming off of assists. The Predators will have to have guys like Yannick Weber, Matt Irwin, and Anthony Bitetto step up in Subban’s absence.

Despite the great start, injuries have hampered the Predators so far. Pekka Rinne spent some time on the IR earlier in the season. Defenseman Dan Hamhuis has also missed a good bit of action this season, only playing in seven games so far.

It’s been a crazy day in the NHL. Not only was the injury of Arvidsson announced, but the Tampa Bay Lighting also announced that their starting goaltender, Andrei Vasilevsky, was out indefinitely due to a broken foot. Boston Bruins defensemen Zdeno Chara and Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby are also dealing with injuries that might cost them some time.
