Tennessee Basketball: 3 Takeaways from Saturday’s win against Kentucky

#3 – Vols needed this game to get back on track
While I realize this might be a bit of a stretch after the Volunteers went 2-1 in the last two weeks before the Kentucky game, this game was very important for the Volunteers to get back on track. While the Volunteers reeled in two wins, both of those wins were games that the Volunteers struggled in. The Volunteers loss came against a tough LSU team but was a team that was without their star point guard.
This also was a game that helped some of the Volunteers playmakers get back on track. Jordan Bowden had struggled since the Kentucky game, but he was able to get some shots to fall, posting nine points, which included a nasty alley-oop.

The Volunteers will have two more tough games this week to end SEC play. A win against a very good Kentucky team should give the Volunteers some confidence as they host Mississippi State in Thompson Boling Arena on Tuesday night and travel to Auburn on Saturday.
This will also be a very important week as the Volunteers look to clinch their second straight SEC regular season title. Both the Volunteers and LSU are tied for first with a 14-2 record in SEC play. LSU has a much easier week as they travel to Florida on Wednesday and host Vanderbilt on Saturday.
