Previewing the Nashville Predators – Dallas Stars First Round Matchup

Regular Season Matchups

The Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars faced off five separate times on the season, with the Predators posting a 3-2 record against the Stars. Two of the Predators wins against the Stars came in overtime.

November 10th, 2018 – 5-4 OT win for the Predators

The first matchup between the two teams provided a classic. The Predators got off to a hot start on the season, and this win was something that propelled that hot start.

This game though, the Predators found themselves in an early hole, down 3-1 after two periods. That deficit didn’t hinder the Predators though, as Ryan Johansen, Yannick Weber, and Roman Josi added goals in the third period to tie the game and send it to overtime. Josi’s goal came in the last minute while the Predators were on the powerplay.

Mattias Ekholm scored the game-winning goal midway through the OT period to give the Predators an amazing comeback win.

December 27th, 2018 – 2-0 loss for the Predators

This matchup was all in the Stars favor. Tyler Pitlick added a goal in the first period, while Mattias Janmark added another midway through the second period.

The Predators had a number of chances to get some goals to cut the deficit, but they were shutout in an amazing performance by Anton Khudobin. Khudobin had a career night in net for the Stars. He stopped all 49 shots that the Predators threw at the net.

February 2nd, 2019 – 3-1 loss for the Predators 

The Predators looked to get a win against the Stars to gain a game on the season series. It looked good for the Predators early when Calle Jarnkrok added a goal midway through the first period.

The rest of the game went in the Stars favor, as they scored three straight goals to close the game out. Khudobin had yet another outstanding performance against the Predators, stopping 38 of the 39 shots the Predators took.

February 7th, 2019 – 3-2 OT win for the Predators

The Predators and the Stars faced off for the second time in five days, but this game went the Predators way. The Predators took an early lead against the Stars, thanks to a goal from Craig Smith.

The Stars tied things up early in the third period, but Viktor Arvidsson added his 22nd goal of the year to give the Predators the lead again. Dallas answered again though, as Taylor Fedun added a goal just over a minute later, sending the game into overtime.

Johansen added this goal in overtime to give the Predators yet another overtime win against the Stars.

February 19th, 2019 – 5-3 win for the Predators

This win for the Predators was their first regulation win against the Stars on the year. Brian Boyle gave the Predators an early lead midway through the first period. The two teams traded goals, with the Stars taking a 3-2 lead after a goal from Tyler Seguin late in the second period.

The Predators answered with three straight goals. Filip Forsberg added a goal late in the second period, while Josi scored the game-winning goal early in the third period and added an empty netter late in the game to ice the game.
