Oregon transfer Victor Bailey Jr. announced on Instagram he is going cross country to Knoxville to join Rick Barnes and the Vols in 2019.

Victor Bailey Jr. is a junior guard out of Oregon and averaged 7.4 PPG last season for the Ducks. He started eight games but his minutes were continuously reduced throughout the season. The decrease in minutes is what made him decide to transfer from Oregon. This announcement is coming two weeks after Arizona State transfer Uros Plavsic announced he would be joining the Vols.

Bailey will have the opportunity to fill a much-needed position at the guard spot for the Vols. He will look to fill Jordan Bone’s role at point guard if he is eligible for the 2019 season. Receiving an eligibility waiver from the NCAA seems to be an easy thing to get but also difficult for some players depending on who the kid is and the schools involved. Plavsic is currently looking to receive an eligibility waiver from the NCAA so Bailey could soon be joining him in line.

Bailey Jr. has a connection with Vols assistant coach Kim English, which is what could have led him to Knoxville. English was on staff with Tulsa when they recruited Bailey in 2017. Bailey was a four-star prospect and the No. 19 point guard in Texas.

With Tennessee’s 2019 signees and now two transfers they have filled all 13 of their scholarships for 2019. Plavsic filled the twelfth scholarship, and now Bailey will fill the thirteenth. Even if Bailey is unable to contribute in the 2019-20 season, he will still be an asset to the Vols in the future. The Vols are running a little thin at the guard positions, so to have someone you know will be there in the future is a good sign.
