Kara Lawson is the most recent female to receive an opportunity to coach in the NBA. She will join the Celtics and add a unique dynamic to the team.

You may be familiar with West, Middle, and East Tennessee but the Boston Celtics might be trying to make the New England area North Tennessee.

Kara Lawson will join the Celtics as an assistant under head coach Brad Stevens. Lawson’s unique dynamic is she will now be coaching another former Vol in Grant Williams.

She becomes the fourth female assistant coach in the NBA joining San Antonio’s Becky Hammon, Dallas’ Jenny Boucek and Cleveland’s Lindsay Gottlieb.

Lawson is a former WNBA and Olympic champion so she has playing experience she can offer and this isn’t her first job in the NBA.

Lawson has also been an analyst for the Washington Wizards but is now ready to start her coaching career with the Celtics.

We have all seen coaches reunite with players and different generations of players team up at the professional level, but seeing a female coaching a male from the same university in the NBA is something that you don’t see happen and may have never happened up to this point.

Lawson was coached by one of the greatest basketball coaches of all-time in Pat Summitt, so she knows what it takes to win just by watching Pat and playing under her.

Grant also brings another aspect to this relationship as he was apart of one of the most successful men’s basketball teams in program history this past season.

I’m sure the Celtics will capitalize on this and bring us some great content on social media, and hopefully, things will click on the court for them too.

Lawson brings coaching experience along with her with coaching USA Basketball’s 3-on-3 teams.

I have no doubt Lawson will take advantage of this opportunity and capitalize on it.

With this opportunity, it could open the door to a future head coaching job in the WNBA or college if she’s interested in that. If she does really well, it might eventually open the door to be a head coach in the NBA.

It seems like we are on a path where a female head basketball coach could be coming pretty soon, it’s just a matter of when a franchise is going to be willing to do it for the first time.

Next. Memphis-Tennessee rivalry renewed, almost. dark

The Celtics seem to love Grant so they could find that Lawson is just as lovable and start fully buying into the Tennessee culture.
