For better or worse:

2016 was the year for Tennessee. They were projected to make the College Football Playoff and should have.

That doesn’t change the fact that Barrett Sallee along with many others, predicted Tennessee to win the SEC East and play for a chance to win the SEC Championship.

This was one of the most miserable seasons for Tennessee fans in a long time because we knew what we had and they underachieved.

First against Texas A&M, then getting blown out by Alabama at home and falling to South Carolina the week after to lose three straight games after starting 5-0.

Even at 8-3, the Vols had a chance to go to a New Years Six Bowl.

The Sugar Bowl seemed to be the future bowl game for Tennessee, and all they had to do was beat Vanderbilt in Nashville in the season finale.

A disappointing season they are topped off with a disappointing regular season loss. The Vols lost to the Commodores and blew their chance to go to a New Years Six bowl.

Instead, the Vols played in a “first-class bowl” in the Music City Bowl and defeated Nebraska to win their ninth game.

Tennessee was supposed to play in the SEC Championship and maybe even in the College Football Playoff, and Barrett Sallee doubled down on his prediction claiming the Vols would win 11 games.

Tough year for Barrett. I don’t know if he will be jumping back on the Tennessee bandwagon for a while.
