Zach Mettenberger was once seen as a possible future franchise quarterback for the Titans by some. Oh, how well that turned out.

Mettenberger was a sixth-round pick by the Titans and was seen by some as a possible diamond in the rough in the 2014 NFL Draft.

If you have kept up with the Titans since 2014, you know that didn’t turn out so well.

Mettenberger spent three years in the NFL, only playing in his first two seasons.

In his first two seasons, Mettenberger started ten games with the Titans and went an outstanding 0-10. Why did he not get a second contract again?

In his two seasons, Mettenberger threw for 2,347 yards with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Not the worst stat line but not very good either.

If he was able to win a few games, I think he could still be in the league, but after starting ten games and not winning any of them, I don’t think he made a very good case for himself.

Now, with the quarterback future uncertain in Tennessee with Jake Locker commanding the offense it wasn’t a bad pick for a sixth-round pick.

Sixth-rounders usually don’t work out, or they at least don’t become main contributors, so taking a chance on a quarterback that can sling the ball isn’t a bad idea.

But Mettenberger never had a QBR over 30%, so it’s hard to prove you’re a worthy NFL quarterback when you’re performing like a sixth-round pick.

I was never a fan of Mettenberger, but before Marcus Mariota, he gave the Titans some hope by being a pocket passer who could throw the ball down the field.

The worst part of this is Eric Kay thought this was an A+ pick for the Titans. I don’t know if anyone was that high on Mettenberger coming out of college.

But it’s ok I’m sure Eric hasn’t made the same mistake since then.
