Former NFL wide receiver James Jones said Titans receiver Corey Davis could be the next Terrell Owens on NFL Total Access.

When discussing the Titans receiving corps, James Jones interrupted to give high praise to Corey Davis. Jones said Davis reminds him of a young T.O.

“Corey Davis is a baller. He reminds me of a young Terrell Owens, that’s what he reminds me of,” Jones said. “He is a baller. So if you don’t watch the Tennessee Titans, tune in and watch the Tennessee Titans and watch Corey Davis.”

One of the greatest receivers to ever grace the NFL gridiron is now being mentioned in the same sentence as Davis. That’s unbelievable when you think about it.

Davis was the fifth pick in his draft, but I don’t know if anyone expected to see him have this high of praise so early in his career.

Now a Hall of Famer, Terrell Owens had a phenomenal career racking up 15,934 receiving yards and 153 touchdowns. That’s third all-time in both of those categories. If Davis can bring in stats anywhere near that for the Titans he will be seen as an all-time great.

Owens and Davis share some similar attributes that could make Davis the next T.O., but he still has some work to do if he wants to reach that level of success on the field.

Throughout the offseason, rumors have been swirling around the receiving corps and quarterback Marcus Mariota as he is in a contract year with the Titans. This will be the season he needs to put up his best numbers and Davis will be a primary target in that offense.

If Mariota can reach a high level of play in 2019, Davis could be set up for a 1,000-yard season and double-digit touchdowns. Davis has the potential to be the next great receiver he just has to keep grinding and hopes Mariota can live up to his own hype.

If Mariota and Davis can start clicking early in the season, oh boy, look out because they will be dropping bombs on their opponents in 2019. The Titans could easily be a team to come out of the AFC South no one expected.

In his third season in the NFL, I think Davis is ready to take that next step towards becoming a great receiver. He was only 109 yards short of a 1,000-yard and if a healthy Mariota steps up to the plate in 2019 then getting those extra 109 yards should be a piece of cake.
