On Monday, Titans linebacker Derrick Morgan announced his retirement from football and details have now come out as to what he will now be doing.

Derrick Morgan announced his retirement from the NFL after a nine-year career. In those nine years, he totaled 44.5 sacks and 208 tackles.

Those numbers are nothing to scoff at, but it only gets better from here. In his post-NFL career, he has decided to start a $200 Million Opportunity Zone Fund.

"“I’m at a time where, physically and mentally, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to continue,” Morgan told Forbes last week. “I feel at peace with the decision. I feel free in a sense to be able to wake up and put my mind and my energy towards things that are more purposeful to me at this time in my life.”"

Opportunity Zone funds are a way for a player like Morgan to transition into the next phase in his life, real estate. He will use these funds to invest into low-income communities.

I would love to see Morgan stay around Nashville and help try to build up some of the lower-income communities and help out the city. He played college football at Georgia Tech so Atlanta could be another location for his future business.

In his nine-year career, Morgan has always been a guy to speak up on things he believes in. In 2016, he advocated for cannabis to be used for injuries such as CTE and last year he spoke out against social injustices.

For the past seven years, Morgan has been focused on investing in real estate in Nashville and Atlanta. In the past few years, he has also turned to focusing on social impact.

Morgan has been a critical player for the Titans since coming into the league, and now he has a chance to be a key player in multiple communities.

You don’t often see many players trying to figure out what they’re going to do after football, but it’s nice to see Morgan is taking those extra measures.

You hear a lot about players going broke after retirement or finding themselves in bad situations. It’s nice to see a successful player like Morgan take advantage of his schooling and go to work after his NFL career.
