Tennessee Titans: My thoughts on the Madden 20 ratings: Who cares
The Madden 20 player ratings have been swirling around as player’s ratings have dropped but honestly when it comes to the NFL who cares.
I don’t want to sound like a buzz kill or anything like that. I play Madden; I enjoy Madden. EA makes a decent game every year, and people take the initial player ratings seriously, but they don’t 100% accurately represent the underrated players and teams.
For the Titans, they had an overall rating of 81 last year which was best for eighth in the NFL. This year they stayed at 81 but are tied for 19th. I’m not arguing that the Titans are better or worse than an 81 overall rating I just don’t think we should take the rating so seriously.
We’re at the point where players are so worried about their Madden rating when it comes out they genuinely get upset when they don’t get the rating they feel they deserve. Oh, and spoiler alert they always think they should be rated higher.
Of course, if I were a player, I would use this to put a chip on my shoulder going into the season. But I don’t think it’s that big of a deal to get upset about it. I always thought this was a fun way to say “haha come on guess I’ll have to prove I’m better on the field.”
I guess it’s not like that anymore since Madden is becoming more and more popular every year. And you can only credit EA for making that happen because without them I may not have a video game to complain about in July.
Do I think the Titans were disrespected? Yes. Delanie Walker is the only player that has better than a 90 rating, but I can promise you it won’t be like that come to the end of the season.
Actually, now that I’m writing this, I am doing what EA wants me to do. I’m playing right into their hand, but since I have gotten this far, I might as well finish up.
Marcus Mariota has a 79 rating which is probably the most absurd, but he also had his worst season last year since coming into the league, so it’s actually close to accurate. But if Mariota doesn’t like his rating, he’s going to go out and prove Madden they’re wrong.
I may sound salty in this article, but it is what it is. I don’t think we as fans, coaches or players should be getting genuinely upset about video game ratings. I mean we can just edit them when we get the game anyways.
The Madden ratings are all fun and games, and I think we should just take a step back, stop taking it all so seriously, and just have fun with it all. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
