Tennessee Titans: Is Marcus Mariota already considered a bust?
If Marcus Mariota flops in 2019 is it time we consider him a bust? Well, Bleacher Report is just about ready to make that claim.
When I think of Marcus Mariota, I don’t think of bust. He’s been riddled with injuries the past couple of seasons which has prevented him from being successful but far from being a bust.
Well, Bleacher Report is ready to call Mariota a bust after 2019 if it doesn’t go as planned. They claimed Mariota is “already on the verge of busting as an NFL quarterback.”
Brent Sobleski believes part of the reason he’s on the verge of being a bust is because of his extensive injury history along with his lack of progression.
"“Something is missing in Tennessee, and Mariota is less than a year away from entering bust status if he can’t stay on the field and drastically improve this fall, Sobleski said.”"
Sobleski isn’t even giving Mariota the full 2019 season to fall into the bust category. He also mentioned the players around Mariota not being that great, and he has a point there too.
The players surrounding Mariota on offense haven’t been great, and Mariota has been playing down to their level. This year Mariota has arguably his best team around him when it comes to offensive talent.
I’m not ready to go that far, though, but it seems like some people are. I think Mariota is still a good quarterback and I think even though the past two years were rough, he could bounce back in 2019.
The Mariota-Winston debate was a big one in 2015, which seemed like yesterday, but it could turn out neither player wins that debate from draft night.
That’s unbelievable to think when you look back to that draft night. It seemed like one if not both quarterbacks were a part of the new wave of future NFL quarterbacks, but they both might be flops.
After a couple of years into both of their careers, it seemed like Mariota was pulling away from Jameis Winston and that Mariota could be the quarterback of the future.
Throwing for 3,426 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions Mariota had his best season to that point, but unfortunately, that is still his best season to this date.
Mariota can still bounce back in 2019, but it’s going to be more difficult after trending downward since the 2016 season. I think 2019 will even be the year he turns everything around and competes for the AFC South title.
I like the Titans this year. They have a solid team all around, and if Mariota can get things going, I don’t think there will be anything to worry about.
