Two former Vols will collide once again in the NBA in 2019. This time as former Tennessee basketball coach Donnie Tyndall has been hired by the Pistons.

If you thought Donnie Tyndall would never coach another Tennessee player after the 2015 season, then you are wrong. Although it won’t be at the University of Tennessee, Tyndall will have the chance to coach Jordan Bone in the G-League.

The Detroit Pistons hired Tyndall on Monday to be the G-League head coach which could set up for a unique dynamic between the two former Vols.

I don’t know if that dynamic will be a good thing for the Pistons, but it’s only a matter of time before we find out. Bone got to Tennessee a couple of years after Tyndall left, so he’s not familiar with his coaching style.

If you were focused in on Grant Williams in Boston and Admiral Schofield in Washington and not paying attention to Bone in Detroit now would be the time to make that transition.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a few headlines in the next couple of weeks as both of them share their thoughts on each other. I’m personally excited to see how the two get along in the G-League and if they can get along.

Bone doesn’t seem like the kind of player that’s hard to get along with as a teammate or a coach, but we have a small sample size so who knows how he will fare with Tyndall.

This will at least add a little intrigue into Bone’s transition into the NBA and professional basketball. Tyndall did a decent job in his short time in Knoxville so anything can happen in his first year as a G-League head coach.

Tyndall was an assistant on the Grand Rapids Drive last season which is what led to his promotion. And who knows if both Bone and Tyndall work out in the G-League, they could both be promoted to the Pistons in the next few seasons.

If this story wasn’t already interesting enough for you imagine Donnie Tyndall coaching Jordan Bone on the Detroit Pistons in 2022.
