Tennessee Football: BYU fans are asking for something they don’t want
BYU will be the most interesting game for Tennessee this football season due to what both fanbases will be bringing into the stadium.
Neyland Stadium will sell alcohol for the first time on September 7. That same day BYU will be traveling from out west to take on the Vols, and they’re coming prepared.
BYU fans are coming in full force and will be having a “CougarTown Tailgate” before kickoff. The tickets are sold out and included in the ticket package there is a t-shirt included that says “y’all” with the BYU “Y” logo.
And if you want to take your family out to Dollywood to celebrate the BYU loss, they also have discounted tickets for the theme park as well.
The fact that BYU is bringing an official tailgate with “y’all” shirts is only going to rile up Tennessee fans more than usual.
Alcohol will be provided inside the stadium, so if Tennessee gets off to any kind of a hot start Vol fans will be coming in hot at the BYU fans and what they could witness isn’t Mountain West or PAC-12 football.
You can ask just about anyone, not from Tennessee about their experience in Neyland, and it likely wasn’t a good one. If BYU fans come into Neyland tempting Tennessee fans, then I’m going to guess their experience isn’t going to be great either.
I like to enjoy football games, win or lose. I went to the Kentucky game a couple of years ago in Lexington. Naturally, we lost, but I had some Kentucky and Tennessee fans around me, and I think we all had an enjoyable experience for the most part.
Of course, losing isn’t enjoyable, but I had a fun time at the game and going back and forth ribbing Kentucky fans are also fun. Every game I’ve been to has been a positive experience for me, at least when it comes to enjoying the game overall.
The ending hasn’t always been fun or enjoyable, but that’s sports, right? Three Vanderbilt games, a Kentucky game, and a Florida game. All losses but still positive memories from each.
All that just to say I know that’s not every fan’s experience for either side. I know some fans are a little more aggressive and some fans don’t mind going after opposing fans in an aggressive manner, especially Tennessee fans.
I don’t know if it’s the whiskey or beer, or maybe it’s because we care too much. BYU has another thing coming for them, and if their fans come into Neyland trying to come after Tennessee fans, it’s not going to be good.
With that being said, it’s going to be interesting to see how things turn out with BYU coming to town. It’s a big game on the Tennessee schedule and could carry momentum over into the SEC season if everything goes well.
